Delhi High Court orders status quo on land where 600-year-old mosque was demolished

On Monday, the Delhi High Court directed the Delhi Development Authority to uphold the current state of affairs on the land where the historic 600-year-old Akhoondji/Akhunji mosque was demolished.

Justice Sachin Datta specified that this status quo would persist until the next scheduled hearing on February 12.

The Court made it clear that the order for maintaining the status quo applies specifically to this property and does not hinder the authority from taking action against other unauthorized properties.

This ruling was issued in response to a petition filed by the Managing Committee of the Delhi Waqf Board.

The Delhi High Court had also asked the DDA to explain the demolition of 600 years old Mosque and Madrasa in Mehrauli.
