Delhi High Court Orders Forensic Probe into Alleged JEE (Main) 2025 Scorecard Manipulation

In a significant development, the Delhi High Court has ordered an investigation by the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) into alleged discrepancies in the JEE (Main) 2025 scorecards. The order was passed by Justice Vikas Mahajan after two candidates alleged manipulation in their results.

The Court noted that both the petitioners and respondents agreed that a forensic probe was essential to determine the truth. Accordingly, the Court directed the CFSL to examine the digital trail and submit its findings in a sealed cover by May 22, 2025, in light of the approaching JEE (Advanced) 2025 result declaration scheduled for June 2.

The petitioners, represented by Advocate Deepak Jain, contended that the scorecards downloaded by them did not match the final composite scorecards published by the National Testing Agency (NTA). One candidate further pointed out discrepancies in Session II, including incorrect records of attempted questions.

In response, the NTA, represented by Senior Advocate Rupesh Kumar, denied any manipulation, asserting that the entire process was digital, conducted by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) without any human intervention. The NTA submitted that audit logs and certification from NIC confirmed the integrity of the process.

While ordering the forensic probe, the Court also provided interim relief to one petitioner, permitting him to register for JEE (Advanced) based on his claimed percentile. However, the Court clarified that this permission would not create any special equity, and his result will not be declared until the matter is fully resolved.

The next hearing is scheduled for May 23, 2025, when the CFSL report will be reviewed. The case has drawn attention to the need for transparency and accountability in high-stakes examinations managed by national agencies.
