Supreme Court Denies Ranveer Allahbadia’s Plea for Foreign Travel Until Obscenity Probe Concludes

YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, widely known as BeerBiceps, assured the Supreme Court on Tuesday that he would maintain decency in his podcast amid an ongoing investigation into alleged obscene remarks made during an episode of India’s Got Latent.

A Bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and NK Singh refused to lift the travel restrictions imposed on Allahbadia, emphasizing that his plea to travel abroad would only be considered after the ongoing probe is completed. The Solicitor General of India, Tushar Mehta, representing the Maharashtra government, informed the Court that the investigation would take another two weeks.

Allahbadia had previously been permitted to resume his podcast on the condition that he adheres to moral and decent content standards. His counsel, Abhinav Chandrachud, argued that the travel ban was affecting his livelihood, as he needed to travel for interviews. However, the Court declined to intervene, stating that allowing him to travel could delay the investigation.

The Supreme Court had earlier criticized the statements made by Allahbadia and others, calling them “perverted” and questioning whether unrestricted vulgarity could be justified as artistic expression. While the Court granted interim protection to the YouTuber, it initially barred him from producing content before later permitting him to resume his podcast with strict conditions.

The Court is also considering whether broader regulations should be introduced to prevent similar instances of obscene content in digital media. The matter is scheduled for its next hearing on April 21.
