A Chandigarh court has reserved its verdict in the 2008 corruption case involving former High Court judge Justice Nirmal Yadav. The Special Court of Additional Sessions Judge Alka Malik, after hearing final arguments from both the prosecution and the accused, has scheduled the judgment for March 29, 2025.
The case, which dates back to August 2008, was triggered when ₹15 lakh in cash was mistakenly delivered to the residence of Justice Nirmaljit Kaur instead of Justice Yadav. The money, allegedly intended for Justice Yadav, was sent by a clerk of former Haryana Additional Advocate General Sanjeev Bansal. Following an FIR by Chandigarh Police, the case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Justice Yadav, who was later transferred to the Uttarakhand High Court and retired in 2011, was charge-sheeted in 2010, and the Special Court framed charges against five accused in 2014. Over the years, the prosecution cited 84 witnesses, of which 69 were examined. The Punjab and Haryana High Court, in February 2025, allowed the re-examination of 12 witnesses, expediting the long-pending case.
Final arguments concluded on March 27, and the trial court will announce its decision on March 29.
