“Magistrate Orders Action-Taken Report Submission by May 1 in Alleged Incident of Delhi Police SI Kicking Men During Namaz”
Metropolitan Magistrate Manoj Kaushal of Tis Hazari Court has directed the concerned District Commissioner of Police (DCP) to provide a report regarding the recent incident involving a policeman kicking Muslim individuals while they were offering namaz in a public space, as per the case [Faraz Khan vs Sub Inspector Manoj Tomar and anr].
The court has set May 1 as the deadline for the submission of the action-taken report in this matter.
The incident gained attention after a video went viral showing sub-inspector (SI) Manoj Tomar assaulting individuals praying in the Inderlok area of Delhi near the Makki Jama Masjid.
In the video footage, SI Tomar was witnessed kicking and pushing individuals engaged in prayers on the road, and even desecrating the prayer mats they were using.
Following widespread condemnation and protests on social media, SI Tomar was suspended on March 8, pending further investigation into the matter.
Advocate Faraz Khan, the complainant in this case, argued that the incident amounted to a violation of fundamental rights and disrupted societal harmony and peace.
In his complaint filed before the court, Khan asserted, “The accused individuals and their team, by engaging in such reprehensible conduct, are responsible for inciting discord in society… Despite this, no action has been taken against the accused individuals by the police officials.”
In response to Khan’s plea, the Magistrate has requested an action-taken report from the area’s DCP to be submitted by the specified date.
