On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi playfully referenced Hindu mythology to make a jest at the Supreme Court, implying that if Lord Krishna were to give rice to Sudama in contemporary times, a public interest litigation (PIL) might be filed. These comments followed the recent Supreme Court decision deeming the electoral bond scheme “unconstitutional.”
During an event, PM Modi recounted a statement from Acharya Pramod Krishnam, highlighting the sentiment of offering, to which he responded humorously, “If in today’s era, Sudama were to give rice to Shri Krishna and a video surfaced, a PIL would be filed in the Supreme Court, claiming corruption in the offering to Lord Krishna. It is better that you expressed your feelings and did not give anything.”
The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, unanimously struck down the electoral bond scheme last Thursday, instructing the State Bank of India (SBI) to disclose transaction details. This decision is viewed as a significant setback for the BJP, the primary beneficiary of the electoral bond program.
During the same day, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for Shri Kalki Dham in UP’s Sambhal district, emphasizing the development of pilgrimage sites and modern infrastructure across the nation. He stated, “Today, with the devotion of revered saints and the spirit of the people, the foundation of another holy place is being laid. I am confident that Kalki Dham will emerge as another great center of Indian faith.”
In his address, PM Modi also spoke about India’s new journey, invoking the concept of ‘Ram Rashtra’ and stating, “Now a new period has started from 22nd January. With the enthronement of Ram Lalla, a new journey is beginning for India for the next thousand years.”
“Similar to Lord Ram, the avatar of Kalki is poised to shape the destiny of thousands of years. Kalki can be seen as the harbinger of change in the cyclical flow of time and a wellspring of inspiration,” he further remarked.
