Kangana Ranaut has approached the Bombay High Court, seeking a stay on the defamation case filed against her by lyricist Javed Akhtar.

A division bench of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Manjusha Deshpande is likely to hear the petition on January 9.

Actress Kangana Ranaut has petitioned the Bombay High Court seeking a halt to the trial resulting from a defamation complaint filed by lyricist Javed Akhtar. The petition is scheduled to be heard by a division bench of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Manjusha Deshpande on January 9. Akhtar lodged the complaint against Ranaut in response to comments she made during an interview on Republic TV, referring to a 2016 meeting between the two. Ranaut also filed a counter-complaint against Akhtar, alleging criminal conspiracy, extortion, and invasion of privacy.

Ranaut is seeking a stay on Akhtar’s trial, arguing that both cases are related to the same incident and should be tried together to prevent conflicting judgments. The proceedings related to Ranaut’s complaint have already been stayed, while those linked to Akhtar’s complaint are ongoing, prompting Ranaut to approach the High Court for relief.
